EXPERIENCED AND QUALIFIED POLICE SUPERVISOR (SERGEANT)

(Band Member/Persons of Indigenous Ancestry Preferred)
Salary: Rank of Police Sergeant in accordance with the Ontario First Nations Policing Agreement.

The Batchewana First Nation Police Service is actively seeking an Experienced and Qualified Professional Police Officer/Supervisor. Accepting applicants must be an experienced officer with required skills and knowledge to fulfill a role within the Batchewana Police Service. Ability to provide operational supervision of personnel and perform administrative and other operational duties as assigned.

FOLLOWING CRITERIA WILL BE EVALUATED:

  • Minimum confirmed in the rank of First class constable police experience with leadership abilities, required skills, knowledge and competencies to fulfill the role of supervisor (Sergeant)

  • A positive role model and of good moral character

  • Demonstrates behavioral characteristics that would be considered a valued influence for other

    members

  • Education portfolio will include accredited police courses

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Outstanding leadership qualities.

  • Ready to assume regular/full duties as needed

  • May be required to complete the following written testing in accordance with the Ontario First Nation

    Policing Program

    1. MMPI-2 Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2

    2. SIGMA Survey for Police Officers

  • Must be able to meet mandatory medical/physical competencies in accordance with the Ontario First Nation Policing Agreement

  • Subject to a police background security investigation

Child Welfare Team Lead

POSITION SUMMARY

The Child Welfare Team Lead is responsible for directly supervising the front-line child welfare/band representative workers and support staff. The Child Welfare Team Lead is responsible for providing direction, coaching, guidance, and supervision to staff on all matters relating to child welfare services delivery while ensuring their efforts are in alignment with the Batchewana First Nation strategic planning, policies, and procedures as well as legal framework of the Child Youth and Family Services Act and Batchewana’s Standard of Practice.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • University Degree with Honours in Social Work or related field

  • Registration with Ontario College of Social Workers.

  • First Nation Experience considered and Asset

  • Five years’ experience working with children and families involved in Child Welfare Protection.

  • Three years direct management and administration experience in Child Welfare Protection or Social Service

    Agency.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of BFN and Nog-Da-Win-Da-Min programs and services.

  • Understanding, respect, and sensitivity of Anishinabek culture, traditions, and Seven Grandfather Teachings.

  • Knowledge of BFN services delivery, customs, and traditions in responding to Child Welfare.

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation such as: Child, Youth, and Family Services Act, Canadian Human Rights

    Code, Canada Labour Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and other relevant legislation.

  • Design and operation of various services delivery models.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, relationship, and leadership skills.

  • Exception verbal and written communication skills.

  • Superior time management and prioritization skills.

  • Strong user level competency in computer software including Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.

  • Ability to work in team environment.

Junior Accounts Receivable Clerk

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Junior Accounts Receivable Clerk assists in the administration of providing accurate accounts receivable records. The Junior Accounts Receivable Clerk is responsible for assisting in the processing revenue for BFN.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in processing Accounts Receivable statements for BFN.

  • Make bank deposits.

  • Maintains travel records for staff requiring collecting and invoicing travel receipts and expense claims.

  • Assist in filing all required documentation.

  • Invoices external clients and assists Accounts Payable Clerk when required for internal clients.

  • Assistant in providing information for financial reports, including account and budget balancing.

  • Dealing with staff requests.

  • Participate in maintaining general ledger for Accounts Receivable.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • College diploma in finance/accounting OR

  • 1 (one) year of progressively responsible experience in finance/accounting.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Thoroughly familiar with the federal and provincial legislation, regulations, and guidelines that are relevant to the funding and delivery of services on reserve.

  • Knowledge about the cultures and the significant characteristics of the social structures of BFN.

  • Familiar with the BFN Financial Management, Personnel, and applicable Human Services Policies.

  • Moderate level of competency in computer software such as Microsoft Office and other processing software.

  • Diplomatic and flexible team player.

Who We Are

Sagamok First Nation is located on the north shore of Lake Huron. It is a beautiful community whose name means 'two points joining'. Sagamok's culture and language is Anishinabek and is made up of the Ojibwe, Odawa and Pottawatomi tribes. Also known as the Three Fires Peoples, the community members of Sagamok number well over 2000. A little over 50% of the membership lives on reserve, with the remainder living in urban locations. Sagamok is a place of rich stories, legends and history that derive from time immemorial. Once the summer camps of the original peoples who came down from Biscotasing, it is now the permanent home to many of those descendents. Sagamok is an ancestor based village that is known for its diversity, prosperity and growth. Make sure that you visit all that it has to offer in wonderful teachings and sacred worldview!

What We Do

Batchewana First Nation Bingo Hall Of Fame

Sagamok Anishnawbek is organized into five main departments to deliver programs and services to the community members, as well as to members living outside of the Sagamok community. The five departments are: Administration Department, Community Wellness Department, Education Department, Planning & Infrastructure Department, Lands Resources and Environment Department and Housing Department. The Administration Department

  • The Administration Department works to bring cohesiveness and consistency throughout the Sagamok Anishnawbek organization as it works to provide services to the community members
  • The Community Wellness Department also known as Sagamok Naandwedjigamik provides health and social services to the members, the services provide are medical clinics, wellness clinics, mental health and wellness, and cultural services.
  • The Education Department administers all areas of Education to the community members, including a Daycare called Shki-Waase Aaban Binoojinh, an elementary school, Biidaaban Kinoomaagegamik and Waawaasnoode Adult Learning Center. The education department also supports secondary and post-secondary students.
  • The Planning & Infrastructure Department manages the community's infrastructure and capital assets. This includes the roads, water plant and water distribution system, public buildings. We plan, maintain and construct infrastructure in the community for the benefit of the community members.
  • The Housing Department manages the band owned housing units.
  • The Lands, Resources and Environment Department manages the land allotments, land use and development for Sagamok Anishnawbek.
